MAJOR ARCANA

22 cards make up the major arcana. These cards represent bigger life moments. The major arcana is often referred to as “the fool’s journey,” because the cards tell a story from The Fool to The World.

  • The Fool represents starting out on a new journey. This person has a completely carefree attitude and very little baggage. I like to think that they are bringing lessons from a previous journey and nothing else.

  • The Magician represents alchemy or the ability to create whatever is it you are wanting. All four suits are represented on this card, because each of us possess the tools that we need for manifesting our desires.

  • The High Priestess represents tapping into our intuition. We acknowledge our gifts and put them into action.

  • The Empress represents fertility and love. She utilizes her emotional side for decision making.

  • The Emperor represents logic and wisdom. He utilizes his intellectual side for decision making.

  • The Hierophant represents unlocking knowledge. You become the student who seeks answers from a higher power.

  • The Lovers represents romance and all the mushy stuff that comes with it. You are all wrapped up in someone and enjoying every moment.

  • The Chariot represents determining your own path. You are in the driver’s seat and you are charging forth towards your goals.

  • Strength represents a gentle “kill ‘em with kindness” kind of strength. This is about brains (and empathy) over brawn.

  • The Hermit represents a period of time where we retreat in order to gain some insight and knowledge. When we have found what we need, we come back to our world.

  • The Wheel of Fortune represents a transition point. Something is coming to an end, just as something new is beginning. It’s a new phase.

  • Justice represents balance being restored in a very black & white manner. A wrong may be righted, a hard line may fall, and the scales will come back to neutral.

  • The Hanged Man represents taking a moment to literally look at things from a different perspective. Whenever we have had enough, we can come back to the situation with a fresh, new insight.

  • Death represents change, not actual death. We all face change differently. Some of us are oblivious to it, some of us try to hide from it and some of us know it is coming and face it head on.

  • Temperance represents a gentle balance being restored for us. It’s very gray and fluid. It encompasses our emotional and logical sides.

  • The Devil represents a period of indulgence. The key is that we chose to put ourselves there and we can leave once we have had enough.

  • The Tower represents your world literally crumbling. It's a major shift, but we can usually see it coming. Once we tear everything down, we are ready to rebuild.

  • The Star represents gentle restoration. It’s like the soothing calm of twilight on a clear, dark moon night. We are thankful for things leveling back out in our life.

  • The Moon represents trusting your gut when it comes to the things that give us caution. On this card is a domestic dog and a wild wolf, because there can be both sides to most things in life and we should take the time to look at both.

  • The Sun represents a time of pure joy and happiness. We are shining a light on all the good things in our world. We’re “stopping to take selfies in the sunflower patch” kind of happy.

  • Judgement represents confidence and preparedness for whatever life throws at us next. When we get the Judgment card, we have already been through a lot and came out on the other side. Nothing can stop us now.

  • The World represents something coming to a conclusion or resolution, which will allow you to start something new. We are tying things up with a nice little bow and celebrating how far we have come.

COURT CARDS

Pages are like children in that they represent curiosity, wonder, and open-mindedness.

Knights are like the frat boys of the tarot deck. Think: little life experience, but soooooo much confidence. There is an element of fake it, until you make it here.

Queens rule with emotion and feeling. They are looking out for themselves and their “kingdom.”

SIMPLE SPREADS

Looking to dip your toes into the mystical world of tarot? Our beginner-friendly tarot spreads are the perfect way to start your divination journey.

SINGLE CARD

One of the best ways to learn the tarot deck is to pull a single card a day. If it’s the morning, ask what you need to know for the day ahead. If it’s the evening, ask what your takeaway was from the day. Look at the symbolism on the card and use your intuition to interpret its meaning. Then, consult a book for a deeper dive and consider keeping a journal of your daily pull. When we can tie personal experience to a card, it becomes easier to recall its meaning in a reading.

THREE CARD SPREADS

A three card spread is a quick and easy way to gain some insight in a specific area of your life.  There are many options when it comes to three card readings. Always be sure to select your spread, before pulling your cards. Here are a few suggestions, but feel free to create your own:

  • Past - Present - Future
  • Mind - Body - Spirit
  • Problem - Solution - Outcome
  • You - Person - Relationship
